At the beginning of the poem, Amanda begins by stating Americas struggles mentioning slavery, "descended from slaves." Then Amanda continues by trying to imply that America will hold a better future by striving to be a better union despite all its drawbacks it might have had in the past. "But that doesn't mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect." Evidently, The tone is optimistic and positive, as Amanda tries to imply that the United States has a bright future ahead as they continue to strive for a better Union Everyday. Another example of Optimistic tone would be, " so let us leave behind a country better than the one we were left." With the inauguration of a new president, rather than Amanda trying to imply a questionable future for America, Amanda infers That America has a luminous future ahead with the hands of a new president.
