The poem describes the idea of the American Dream and how the fulfillment of this dream begins as early as the beginning of America. This idea of people coming to a place of freedom, equality, liberty etc. is only true, yet again, for the white man. It seems that America was created with the prospect of escaping the inability to access freedom, and garnering a collective ideal to ensure that people wouldn’t fall victim to those who are powerful. But America has become that in which they used to oppose, they became the powerful that idolized wealth, and hypocritically has began to turn away those who are escaping the all too powerful while simultaneously becoming the all too powerful themselves.
