Depending on the difficulty of the vocab, we have a definition, example or drawing and how to use it correctly in a sentence. If they see it and do it, it helps them to learn it better.

Allowing students to approach the content in their home language or non formal language allows them to synthesize prior knowledge with new information. As a teacher, I scaffold the use of academic language and terminology and model how it might be used in specific settings and academic conversations. The language I use when teaching can model academic language and over time make it more accessible to students. It can also isolate students if I'm using exclusive language or language that makes the content inaccessible.
