As a teacher, I scaffold the use of academic language and terminology and model how it might be used in specific settings and academic conversations. Activities such as philosophical chairs, socratic seminars, longer writing pieces gives them opportunities to practice, engage in, and develop their academic language.</div>]]></description>

The language I use when teaching can model academic language and over time make it more accessible to students. It can also isolate students if I'm using exclusive language or language that makes the content inaccessible.&nbsp;<br><br>Academic language has to be explicitly taught most of the time and allowing students to grapple with ideas without having the precise language is valuable, especially once they have the "aha" moment and realize what they are trying to say can be said more precisely when they use academic language. </div>]]></description>

If I am talking about organelles within a cell, it will be hard to understand what a specific organelle does with the loaded vocabulary.
