In the present day, disability is a part of the family and social dynamic. Several legislations and rules are in order to create a barrier free life for individuals with disabilities. By the 21st century, the Canadian disability rights movement saw a significant revival in public interest and political commitment(Galer, 2015).

Disability is a lot less looked down upon in recent years as compared to the 1980s. While there are still people who face disappointment, a large majority of disabled individuals have found a support system within the community and also their families. Jaclyn talks about inclusivity within families and how it has improved over the years. Finding out that a person in your family is disabled can be stressful at first but people need to learn that the needs of the disabled come first. They should be made to feel comfortable and accepted within the family. Based on the disability, arrangements can be made to include them. Patience and listening is key to provide emotional support. It is also important to be very careful while offering to help as we do not want to make the disabled individual feel like a responsibility. It is also important to note that any person with disabilties has equal rights at life. They have a right to marry, and have a family, have children. Children with disabilities must be treated right within a family, and should not be neglected.

Role of an educator

Educators must make any disabled individuals feel confident and empowered. An article by Milsom focuses how the experience of students could be improved by addressing the attitudes and behaviors of the educators. It is possible that students lose self esteem and under value themselves if the educator shows a negative attitude towards them. To avoid that, positive and an inclusive approach is important to make the child feel like a part of the class. This boosts their academic performance and improves their relationship with their peers. The educator is responsible to educate the children in the class about disabilities in a positive manner so that bullying and rejection could be avoided by the rest if the children in the classroom.

Awareness, empathy and education are effective strategies for a professional to promote positive interactions and respect among students.
