Ben Ratliff makes the refinement at an early stage in his book that reiteration isn't"one unchanging tone, or exact copy of a tone, over and over, without evolution."
In the earlier decade, regular radio stations have hacked down the amount of songs in transformation and taken care of the repeat of repetition, since group of onlookers individuals are less disposed to change a long way from tunes they see.
Paying attention to “general associative qualities that have to do with the actual experience of listening such as repetition, density, speed, slowness, sadness, and closeness."
In a part about redundancy, Ratliff discovers shared characteristics between the author Steve Reich and Kesha. Ratliff clarifies how James Brown and Kesha and Steve Reich all charm audience members utilizing the same, consistent strategy. “Repetition puts a spell on you,” Ratliff says. “The stubborn note takes a spell off you.”
"Brown does an amazing thing. . . . He starts to talk, rhythmically, sometimes repeating himself, not really going anywhere, cycling through his catalog of phrases, as an improvising musician does, as a preacher does, as oral poets do. . . . He keeps punctuating with his voice as he plays: ‘Heh.’ ‘Huh.’ And then in a sudden, gruff command: ‘Hit me!’ ”
Music, or a component of music like repetition or pitch, is around us all the time, even “the distinct blasts of the commuter train whistle down by the river.”
"Music is more than repetition and silence and loudness, I mean, I know that. Music is deeply, deeply coded, with history and politics and struggle and all kinds of things, and also reacting with and against trends and prevailing sounds and styles."
A song that Ratliff doesn't talk about in his book that exemplifies repetition is....literally any song on pop radio RIGHT NOW; most songs I hear on pop radio follow the same chord progression (C, G, Am, F) or a variation of those 4 chords.
