As they worked collaboratively through a worksheet or practice assessment, that student would try to convince their classmates that the wrong answer was correct. Their table mates would be able to figure out who the imposter was by asking for text evidence or proof to back up their answer choices.

I learned about hit the button from my 3rd grade saturday school kiddos and I brought it back to first grade. I would put them in partners/teams and let them play on the Promethean. The rest of the class knew if they talked when their team was not playing then they would lose points. The team that got the most correct won

We did this a couple of times. We mixed all the first graders up into groups and then they went to each classroom to do a different activity. They loved getting to come to every ones room and it helped to get them to get to know kids from all the classes.

when we learned CVC/CVCe words, I had sticky notes around the room and students had to walk around with a clipboard and read AND write the words by sorting them between if they were CVC or CVCe. They loved it because it incorporated movement!

Something I do in my music class that the kids really loved was poison rhythm. It’s basically a game where there is one rhythm that is the poison rhythm and when that rhythm comes up they stop playing their instruments. Every other rhythm they play it on their instrument. This helps with memory. Music memory for my class but could be transferred to the other academic areas!

Each table earns wooden sticks from Monday to Thursday, on Friday the table with the most sticks becomes the VIP table, they use VIP supplies and they get a VIP sign.

In the past, I have had students become a character with a living wax museum to learn about important figures in our world in 2nd grade. They spend time researching and learning all about their important figure. To present this, they had a little script that they read and we had parents and family members come to the school, press their button on their hand and share their character.

In 4th grade, we learned about the great depression in Texas and I made a vinegar pie with them. This was one of the foods they learned about and researched the ingredients for. I baked the pies at home and brought it back for students to try.
