      <description>An Illinois resident with an interest in international politics, Lindsey Karls previously served as a research assistant with the University of Iowa College of Law. At the university, Lindsey Karls revised chapters of textbooks used in the law school curriculum, located appropriate cases for textbooks, and researched summer programs for students pursuing master of law degrees. 

Prior to working for the school, Lindsey Karls earned her juris doctor from the University of Iowa and held memberships with numerous public service groups, including the Iowa Campaign for Human Rights and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. A member of the Phi Alpha Delta international law fraternity, she also studied abroad in England, France, and Egypt. 

In between semesters, Lindsey Karls worked as a summer associate for Baker &amp; Daniels, a law firm located in Indianapolis. Among other duties, she was responsible for writing memoranda on international business and corporate tax laws, as well as drafting articles on Supreme Court rulings related to private educational institutions.

         <title>Safe Ascents in Scuba Diving</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Illinois resident Lindsey Karls is an active individual who enjoys international travel and water sports. An avid swimmer, Lindsey Karls of Illinois is also involved in <a href="http://www.sportdiver.com/how-to-make-safe-ascents-while-scuba-diving">scuba diving</a>.<br><br>One of the scuba diver's most important skills is the ability to safely ascend to the surface. An ascent that is too quick leaves the diver vulnerable to decompression sickness, which occurs when nitrogen bubbles build up in the diver's blood.&nbsp;<br><br>Nitrogen naturally builds up when divers spend time at depths. It safely resolves when the diver is able to exhale the accumulated nitrogen during a controlled ascent, but an overly rapid ascent prevents the nitrogen from dissolving into solution. Bubbles then build up in the bloodstream and can block small capillaries, which in turn causes nitrogen to collect in tissues and cause illness.<br><br>Experts suggest that divers can avoid this dangerous nitrogen buildup by climbing no faster than 30 feet per minute, or no faster than the diver's smallest rising air bubble. Similarly important is a three-minute safety stop at 15 feet below the surface, where the diver exhales accumulated nitrogen and reduces the risk of bubble formation.<br><br>Ascent after this stop should be the slowest, as bubbles are more likely to form in the final feet of the rise. During this time, there should be no air in the buoyancy compensator (BC) and the diver should take care to inhale and exhale consistently until he or she reaches the surface. A slow exit from the water and plenty of rest time serve to further protect the diver and help the body recover, so that it is ready for the next underwater excursion.</div>]]></description>
