Metaphor: “you see fathers are master gardeners; they tend to every leaf removing the weeds placing Us in the windows of opportunity.” The author here is comparing fathers to master gardeners in the way that fathers are the ones who tend to his young kids or the seeds he has planted.

Personification: “I look at the master's eyes. His eyes are saying everything’s going to be okay.” The author gives the eyes human-like qualities by saying that they are speaking and saying everything will be alright.

Here, the speaker talks about how their mouth doesn't speak the words they need to, it only causes harm rather than the help they need.

I feel like the theme of the story was a lack of understanding and empathy. The speaker tried and tried to explain her depression to her mother, but she just failed to understand and comfort her daughter. Even the speaker herself couldn't understand why depression made her feel and act the way she did. But she makes this poem to try and help both herself and others understand and grasp the effects of depression.
