In Elementary School we got recess time taken away when we were talking during class time

Operant conditioning in football is knowing the snap count and the cadence before the play, and starting the play after the full cadence.

Operant conditioning in track and field is starting the race when you hear the gun go off.

Coming down to dinner when mom yells from the kitchen.

Write or type your name on every assignment.

Getting a good grade and getting a star on the board in elementary school.

In track, if we leave things out in the weight room and don't clean up, we do burpees.

In school, getting a good grade and keeping a good GPA you can receive more scholarships.

For children, good behavior earns pebbles and if they fill the jar by the end of the week they earn ice cream.

Teaching a our dog to stand by the door when they need let out.

When the bell rings you understand you need to switch classes.

In my future classroom, I plan to use tokens where students will receive tokens for being good and get a prize if they have five at the end of the day, and if they aren’t having the best day, they may lose tokens.

A negative form of operant conditioning is that if we don’t turn our homework in on time, we lose points and get a lower grade. 

In 3rd grade, if we misbehaved, we got “grounded” for the week, and instead of playing or coloring during free time in class, we had to read. 

In high school English, our teacher would lower the amount of work we had to do for the next assignment if we agreed to help set up for a school event.

During 6 A.M. cheer practice, if all of us showed up on time, our coach would go grab us donuts.

In kindergarten, I remember that if I misbehaved, I would receive a red light and needed to take it home for my parents

If I met my reading goal in elementary school, my teacher would dance on the table

If I talked back, I would get soap in my mouth

At work, if I work hard, I get a raise

I know that I have to be at practice or class at a certain time or there will be a consequence

In kindergarten, we had the opportunity to earn cotton balls in a jar if the whole class was doing something good.

In elementary school, we would earn stars in PE, and if we earned 10 stars, we would get a free day.

My grandparents pay me if I get A's in my college classes.

In my future classroom, I will have stars that my class can earn to receive a reward.

In elementary school, if we did not behave during the day, we would get our recess taken away.

A negative reinforcement of operant conditioning would be turning in an assignment late and receiving a lower score as a result.

In elementary school, we had yellow and red tickets. If you received a yellow ticket, you had to stand in line facing the building for 10 minutes of recess. If you got a red ticket, you stood in line for the entire recess.

If we had completed all of our AR points in elementary, we would have a party, and if you didn't, you weren't invited.

When I was younger, if I talked back, I would get a spankin, and then I wouldn't want to talk back.

If we were late to morning volleyball practice, we had to run laps while everyone else continued to warm up.

When I have an assignment that is done I sometimes put my phone away and make myself finish the assignment before I can go on it again.

In high school baseball we would do a drill called 21 outs and we would go through different scenarios and make the play 21 times in a row, but every time we messed up once we would have to start back over at 0.

In classes there is a rule that if you don't turn an assignment in one time it is minus 10% from the grade and its an additional 10% every day it is late.

I play volleyball at Northwestern, when I do something good my coaches typically will give me praise and tell me 'good job' (positive reinforcement) when I do something negative they will give me helpful feedback but told me what I did wrong and give me reminders for the next time (negative reinforcement)

When I was little my mom would take away a toy that I enjoyed playing with if I misbehaved (negative punishment)

doing well in class adn getting a good grade (positive reinforcement)

Giving out candy for correct answer, active listening (positive reinforcement)

In elementary, we had the word "QUIET" on the whiteboard, and each time the class wasn't behaving, we had one letter taken away. When all letters were taken away, we had something taken away, like recess. (negative punishment)

In middle school, teachers would hand out tickets if they saw a student doing something well. Then, we got to put that ticket into a drawing for a possible prize. (positive reinforcement)

If we don't do dances full out at practice when we're asked, then we have to do them again. (positive punishment)

In gymnastics, we would receive a star on our skills chart if we completed a skill for the level. Then, we could move to the next level. (positive reinforcement)

Increase good study habits to prevent bad grades. (negative reinforcement)

If I do well on an assignment, then I get a good grade (positive reinforcement).

If I do badly on an assignment, then I get a bad grade (negative reinforcement).

When I was younger, my parents had a chore chart system where we got a star after completing our chores. When we got a certain amount, we could go get ice cream. (positive reinforcement).

I interviewed a teacher, and to reinforce good behavior, she had a bead system. All the students started with 5 every day, and if they were not listening, they would have to give her a bead. The extra beads they had left at the end of the day would all go into a jar, and once that jar is full, the class gets a prize. (positive reinforcement)

In the youth group I help with back home, if they were not listening, then we would take away their game time (negative punishment).

I am and have been a golfer my entire life; hearing words like "good swing" or "good shot" after a good shot is a positive reinforcement.

As a college student, a teacher leaving comments on a writing assignment like "Great idea" or "Great point" is a positive reinforcement for a student's writing.

In a future classroom, I plan on focusing on using constructive criticism, and instead of telling students "You're wrong" and giving them the answer. I can use positive reinforcement by saying, "You're close, but here is where you can find the answer.

I believe that rewarding good behavior in class is using a reward system. If students have a class of good behavior, then I can add a bead to the jar. (Positive reinforcement) If the students misbehave in a class period, I can remove a bead from the jar (negative reinforcement)

As a coach, telling my athletes areas we may have lacked in our last event, and ways we can improve in practice, is an example of positive reinforcement.

If we didn't give good effort in sports, we would have to run.

When you turn in an assignment late, your grade will be deducted.

If I put a lot of effort in and do an assignment well, I will get a better grade.

When we would get AR points in elementary school, we could use them do get parties or bonuses.

In class if you had late work it was posted on the board in front of the whole class. So, all the students could see what you had late or missing for assignments and they could see your grade so that could be negative motivation and negative reinforcements.

In 2nd grade we had pennies in a mini m&m containers and once we had those filled, we had a chance to dump it into a 5-gallon water bucket and if it made it into the little container, we got a prize. This was used as positive motivation and positive reinforcements in the classroom.

At home if my grade we lower than what my mom expected my phone was taken away to try and get me to focus more on my schooling. This was used as a positive and negative reinforcements to give me more motivation to do school.

In my future classroom there will be popsicle sticks and they will be used as a positive reinforcement in my classroom.

During school if the class was being disruptive, we got recess taken away to relearn the expectations of how to act in the classroom.

Hypothetically if we gave up 20 runs to another team, our coach wouldn’t be giving us positive reinforcement. He’d rather scold us for it.

Team executing plays right would get positive reinforcement and encouragement from our coach.

Not meeting deadlines means reduced grades on late assignments.

Raising you hand and getting the answer right gave you positive reinforcement from the teacher and self confidence for being right.

Doing a bad job pitching would get you pulled from the game. Doing well would allow you to go longer until you were tired or certain situations came up.
