Corporate Social Responsibility is important, since both the environment, the community, and the business are benefited.

If a business has social responsibility, this would encourage consumers that care about the environment or people to put in their trust and support for the business, therefore they gain an increase in consumers and build customer loyalty, as well as gaining a positive brand image and better recognition. Moreover, the business are able to recruit more talented workers and improve their motivation if they have a positive reputation, improving the quality of its work force, productivity and creativity. The business can also avoid pressure groups and possible legal issues if they don’t break any legislation, which save cost and time. For Microsoft, these benefits translate into increased sales, stronger stakeholder relationships, and a positive influence on global environmental and social issues through its technology and initiatives.

I believe that corporate social responsibility is essential for long term business success. While profit maximization is important, businesses that ignore social and environmental responsibilities risk losing consumer trust and damaging their brand reputation.
A strong example of a company excelling in CSR is Patagonia, the outdoor clothing brand. The company actively promotes sustainability by using recycled materials, encouraging customers to repair instead of replace products, and donating a percentage of profits to environmental causes. This not only helps the planet but also strengthens Patagonia’s reputation, attracting loyal customers who value ethical business practices.
Therefore, CSR is not just about doing good, but it is also a strategic business choice that ensures sustainability, consumer loyalty, and long-term profits.

Nowadays, customers, especially young people are increasingly aware of how businesses activities affect the environment and society. They also tend to purchase and react positively to brands that are responsible for their decisions and activities. Therefore, CSR not only gives business a competitive advantage, but also allows customer loyalty to be strengthen, and profit to be increased.

Example: Nike. After facing criticism in the past for labor practices, Nike shifted its focus toward sustainability and transparency. The company has introduced programs such as “Move to Zero,” aiming for zero carbon and zero waste, and has invested in producing footwear from recycled materials. These initiatives demonstrate Nike’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while meeting consumer expectations for responsibility.

Engaging in CSR can help mitigate certain risks, such as reputation damage due to unethical behavior or environmental violations.

An example of a CSR that succeed in this part is Coca Cola where they decided to change their packaging into something that is more environmentally friendly and also giving back the unused water to the nature which ensures water security. Not doing this will have a huge impact for the business because Coca Cola is one of the biggest polluter in the world as they have used three million tonnes of plastic packaging in one year.

By implementing the CSR, Coca Cola's public image was improved as they have proven that they are a responsible company. The CSR have not only reduce certain risks but it also improve customer loyalty and attract more investors.

https://www.coca-cola.com/vn/vi/sustainability/sustainable-packaging

https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-47569233
