I believe that these violations occur for a variety of reasons. One could be because students do not know how to properly cite or paraphrase information they use from other people. Another reason could be that students are too lazy to create their own work and take ideas and concepts from other people's intellectual output. One other reason that I believe these violations occur is because students do not know the weight of their actions when they appropriate other people's intellectual output.

I think there are multiple things that could be done and are already being done to reduce this unethical behavior. For one, many teachers/professors include strict rules about following anti-plagiarism rules. There are also programs that teachers and professors require students to submit their work through to check against plagiarism through all work submitted online. Another way that could eliinate unethical behavior is to teach students how those who own the work they are appropriating may suffer. These people could be losing money they would otherwise be gaining, and they are not getting the credit they deserve.
