It is amazing how we all told ourselves. I cannot wait till I finish school or I cannot wait till I'm 18 and older. Living in a fantasy world thinking it would be easier once we reach a certain age. We were fooled thinking life would be so perfect after school but it is the complete opposite. Every generation had different experiences growing up. It can be frustrating to hear from older people that life was more difficult for them and they had to do more than the children of today. Yes they worked more physically and things have changed. We are always reminded about it but there is nothing we can do about the past. We are grateful for a better way of living. There were benefits in the olden days(after apartheid) because people interacted more with each other and came together, more easier to get a job and much more. The freedom, the people had in the olden days, is something we won't be able to experience. Our generation faces many challenges too and I feel like life is way more complicated for us. Technology is improving and becoming better day by day but the more technology improves, the more, it has an effect on our youth mentally, spiritually and physically. A big issue, our youth faces on a daily basis is our mental health. It is very difficult to open up about your mental health and communicate because we are scared of being judged by others. As the population expands. Jobs become more scarce and everyone is battling to get a place in tertiary institutions. It is stressful trying to please everyone and putting up a brave face. As I become older, the more I stress about my future and the obstacles in between. Everyone would ask 'how you doing' or 'how have you been' and majority of the time I answer by saying 'I'm good' or 'I'm okay'. We always respond like this because what are you as a person going to do if I say 'Things are not going well' or 'I'm not okay' absolutely nothing. We as the young people of today are the only one's to get ourselves out of that bubble and responsible for our future. It would be such a shock if a parent or guardian had to ask us how we actually feel or what can they do to help us? We are raised by doing things ourselves and having the mentality that we only have ourselves at the end of the day. This is why I feel like my generation is stronger and smarter because we all want to be independent. We all crave stability and want to live a better life. The more money you get, the more expensive life becomes. It will never be a win win situation for our generation.

I actually still enjoy being in the adult world and not actually wishing to go back to school. I am enjoying doing things on my own and planing my days. It feels like i am free and its not scripted.

I was reading through the comments and I saw a comment talking about how parents don't prioritize mental health and that's the unfortunate truth these things contribute to our future. I do agree that a picture is painted where we think reaching a certain age that everything will just magically fall into place. I also think that schools also need to teach us about the real world.

and people dont understand that every generation faces different challenges and today people are so quick to judge and feel like they have the right to give their opinion when it has nothing to do with them, tyrese gibson opened up on his mental and was made fun of and i feel like thats the generation we live in we would rather break each other down then build each other up
