At the beginning of every class, students are asked to paint a small shape or line that represents how they are feeling that day along with one word. At the end of the semester, they can see all the emotions. This gives students a moment at the beginning of class to focus on themselves, and lower stress with a low barrier creative project. This could be used in ACDV as students are getting to know college life, and how they are feeling throughout a semester.

Source: https://earlyimpactlearning.com/18-mindfulness-art-activities/

This is an activity that can be used before an ENGL class that is about to start thinking of topics for an essay. Students are given a sheet of paper with 30 circles. They are invited to turn as many circles as possible into something recognizable (ie sun, face). After 3 minutes, see how many people created. The idea is get students focused on a non-stressful activity that helps them think outside the box. It opens up creative thinking to be able to work on other things with an open mind during class.

Source: https://clubexperience.blog/2018/03/29/30-circles-challenge-creative-icebreaker-activity-with-free-download/

This activity could be used in any class by changing the image. At the beginning of class, students are invited to look at an image. The image is one that the instructor has chosen that relates to course content. For example, a picture of a garden for a HORT class. Students pay attention to their breathing and focus quietly on the image. After 3 minutes, students write down their thoughts. This gives students the time to lower stress with breathing and focus on the course content.

Source: https://www.utimes.pitt.edu/news/teaching-pitt-consider
