<title>Modelling is a form of learning where individuals ascertain how to act or perform by observing another individual. Think of it this way, you may know how to tell a joke better because you have watched Jay Leno&#39;s stand-up routine on TV. Or, if you have ever felt uncomfortable at a party and someone gives you the advice of: &quot; When in Rome, do as the Romans do&quot; -- well, the person is really saying: &quot;Model your behaviours and learn how to act by watching how others are performing in the same situation.&quot; </title>

<title>Modelling is a method used in certain techniques of psychotherapy whereby the client learns by imitation alone, without any specific verbal direction by the therapist (See Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) and2.a general process in which persons serve as models for others, exhibiting the behaviour to be imitated by the others This process is most commonly discussed with respect to children in developmental psychology.Confusingly, the word refers both to the behaviour of the learner and the teacher.Modelling is an important component of neurolinguistic programming (NLP), which field has further developed specialized techniques involving modelling. (See NLP modelling.)As the name implies, in the modelling the client learns new skills by imitating another person, such as a parent or therapist, who performs the behaviour to be acquired. A younger client may be exposed to behaviours or roles in peers who act as assistants to therapist then be encouraged to imitate practice the desired new responses. For example, modelling may be used to promote the learning of simple skills such as self-feeding for a profoundly intellectually disabled child, or more complex skills such as being more effective in social situations for a shy withdrawn adolescent.</title>

<title>One of the major criticisms of aversion therapy is that it lacks rigorous scientific evidence demonstrating its effectiveness. Ethical issues over the use of punishments in therapy are also a major point of concern.Practitioners have found that in some cases, aversion therapy can increase anxiety that actually interferes with the treatment process. In other instances, some patients have also experienced anger and hostility during therapy. In some instances, serious injuries and even fatalities have occurred during the course of aversion therapy. Historically, when homosexuality was considered a mental illness, gay individuals were subjected to forms of aversion therapy to try to alter their sexual preferences and behaviours. Depression, anxiety, and suicide have been linked to some cases of aversion therapy. The use of aversion therapy to &quot;treat&quot; homosexuality was declared dangerous by the American Psychological Association (APA) in 1994. In 2006, ethical codes were established by both the APA and the American Psychiatric Association. Today, using aversion therapy in an attempt alter homosexual behaviour is considered a violation of professional conduct.</title>
