The were just an ordinary pair of jeans. In the story there are four friends- Lena, Tibby, Bridget, and Carmen who made this possible. They all travel somewhere for a vacation and each person gets the pants for a certain amount of time and writes about how they are for them. All in all this is a great book to read! I recommend this book to kids 13+ because it does have some strong language on some pages.

It starts off with Eleanor, the new girl, who has “crazy red hair” and “strange clothes,” according to her bullies. Park is a quiet boy who doesn’t talk or get himself involved in conversations. This all happens until Eleanor walks onto the bus. The two awkwardly sit together and never speak, until they come to the conclusion that they share a common interest in comics and good music. Once they finally speak to one another, they are propelled into first love. Both characters are very unique. Eleanor comes from a very dysfunctional family. After Eleanor’s father left them, Eleanor and her four siblings are forced to move into a tiny shack as their mother remarries. They have very little money and have to sleep in a tiny room together. Eleanor’s family issues make her a shy, quiet person, but once she’s people who support her uniqueness, her personality shines through. And for Park, he has a much more stable family, however, he constantly struggles for the approval of his father. Although this has been a problem for Park, he eventually just comes into himself whether his father likes it or not. Park’s father doesn’t support the relationship of the two, because of Eleanor’s family issues and lifestyle. However, this doesn’t stop Eleanor and Park from falling in love. I was very sad after I ended this book, because I knew I wouldn’t find as good of a book as this one ever again. Although, this is Rainbow Rowell’s first novel, I very much enjoyed the plot of the story. It was amazing to see how she was able to write an amazing story. Although, this was an excellent written novel, I was able to make connections with this plot and another story’s plot. Romeo and Juliet immediately rings a bell for me. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo isn’t wealthy and suffers from family issues, while Juliet is wealthy and lives a great life with her family. It was reversed roles, because it was the same plot, but in Romeo and Juliet, the boy was the less wealthy one. There are lots of books that have a similar plot, but if you enjoyed Romeo and Juliet, I highly recommend Eleanor and Park to you. I am very happy I was introduced to this romance novel, I would 10/10 read it again, and I would recommend it to anybody who is looking for a good book to read!
