Organising on Pocket

You can create 'lists' on pocket in order to organise your saves. For example, I created two lists called 'recipes', here i saved useful food recipes and cooking tips, and 'college life', here I saved useful articles that may help a college student like how to do laundry properly. On pinterest you can organise your saves into boards, this is explained in the sections "My saved pins"

Pockets special features

Pocket gives the user the ability to favourite their most enjoyed posts in order to keep them in a separate location to other pins. The 'highlight' section lets the user highlight their favourite parts of articles and save them to a separate section. On Pinterest there is a dropdown bar that contains all the features of the app.

Pinterest profile

On my Pinterest profile, I created a profile picture and background that I chose from my personal library and my pins. I follow other users and have followers myself, we can view each others public pins, similarly you can follow other users and view their public saved posts. On both apps there is an option to create private saves/boards that only you may access. As this account is a business account I have 'monthly views', this is how many people see my created pins per month. I can edit my profile by clicking the black pen figure in the corner of the background image on my profile.

As mentioned, these are a handful of my collections of pins, these are called pinterest boards. The top left corner contains all my pins while the rest are assortments of my pins. On pocket there is a similar feature called 'lists' that is described in the section "Organising on Pocket"

How to save a post

By bringing the mouse over the post you would like to save, it will give you the option to pin the post to one of the pinterest boards you have. For example, this post is suggested for my 'outfits' board, if in agreement with the suggestion click 'save' or if you would like to change boards you may click the arrow down as select your preferred board.

These are my created pins. As I have a business account it shows the analytics below each photo. By selecting 'Create Pin' and uploading a personal photo you can easily post to pinterest. In contrast to Pocket where you are unable to create content unless you are a news supplier.

How to navigate Pinterest

By clicking the Pinterest icon in the top left corner, a drop menu will appear. This shows all the features of the app. In comparison Pocket has a small side section with all the features on the app.

On my home page I can pin/save the posts I like to my profile and I may organise them into different sections. For example, we can see three examples of my sections above the pins, if clicked into it automatically shows me ideas for each of these sections. If searching for a particular topic or post, you can us the search bar to find that pin.

This video is a 'how to' video demonstrating how to use emojis on a windows computer. It is a quick and simple video that gives the main points of the task.

Pockets homepage gives 'recommended reads' to the user, these are the latest reads that may be similar to your latest saves. This is similar to Pinterests algorithm system as the content pinned will impact the future content shown to the user

Editing a ScreenPal video

Once finished recording the video you can move onto the next step of editing. By selecting the 'tools' key in the bottom left of the screen all the editing options will appear. I used the 'Cut' and the speed features for this video. I alos added music as seen on the left side of the screen, there is a wide range of pre-made music or you can add your own music.

By selecting the record button in the right corner of the screen you can select to launch recording. In the video I created I chose the screen video option. Users can also choose to use a webcam to record.

If screen recording, a box will appear on your screen, this box can be sized to fit the content you want to record, whatever is in this box will be recorded. Press the REC button to start recording, you can pause and resume the recording when needed.

Using DataWrapper to create a Map mashup

To create a map using datawrapper, you need to setup an account. Select 'create new' and choose to create a map, a Chloropleth map is the map that will be used in this example.

You will be asked to select the region where you plan to create a map for. I am using the 'Ireland & Northern Ireland >> Counties' as I am surveying the Heritage Oak trees in Ireland

Uploading Data to the Map

You can add data to the map manually, personally I uploaded an Excel document with the data. You can do this by selecting 'Upload file'.

Firstly add a title to your map, you can change the settings to suit what type of map you want. For example, you can choose different colours and types of measurement for your map.

Editing a Video on Youtube

When you post your video on YouTube you have the option to edit it further. Select Edit Video below the video caption

To edit the video select the 'editor' key on the left hand side of the screen. This will give you access to all the editing features. You are able to cut parts of the video, add music, blur the screen, add information to the screen etc

To cut sections off of your video, you select +New Cut and the time stamp you would like to remove. For example I removed the 'screenpal' logo that appeared at the end of my video.
