There are several potential resources for someone experiencing stress. A person can seek emotional support from family and friends. Family and friends are great resources to talk about personal problems and ask for advice when making difficult decisions (American Psychological Association, 2019). Local outreach programs and churches/religious institution are also potential avenues for social and emotional support (American Psychological Association, 2019). If a person does not have many relationships available for social and emotional support, they can seek aid from counselors and psychologists.

Therapist can share personal experiences and knowledge with a client/patient in order to connect more deeply with a client situation (Sarafino & Smith, 2017). The therapist could also provide insight on their personal experience to the client. For example, a client is feeling stressed about getting married, the therapist may disclose that they also were stressed before getting married. This would effectively lead to a deeper understanding between the therapist and client.

Resources:
American Psychological Association. (2019).
