Yesterday we discussed why it is necessary to have numerous credible primary sources to answer a historical question. Today we discussed why it is important to consider perspective when analyzing a primary source. We used the chart above to analyze the perspective of two texts that took conflicting views on slavery. The ability to recognize the perspective of a source is perhaps more relevant today with the overwhelming information available online. We also analyzed the famous painting "Desoto Discovers the Mississippi". This painting will be the centerpiece for our discussion of Spanish exploration and colonization of Georgia.

Write a brief history of how your government was established.

Example: 

The United States of America began as 13 colonies of Great Britain.  The first colony being established in Jamestown (1607) and the last Georgia (1733).  The British policy of mercantilism which stated that British colonies could only trade with Britain, was accepted early on but became more burdensome as time went on.  As the colonies grew they wanted to trade with other countries and became increasingly frustrated with the rules imposed on them by the British king in Europe.  The right to establish colonies in North America did not come cheaply. From 1754 – 1763, Britain fought a war with France for ownership of that land. Although Britain won the conflict, the cost of the war left the king badly in debt.  Therefore the king raised taxes on the colonists, which further infuriated them.  The colonists began to organize boycotts and speak out against the laws they felt were unjust and unfair taxes they had to pay.  After years of protests and riots; a war between the colonies and Britain broke out.  Although the colonists were badly outmatched militarily by Britain, they won the conflict and earned the right to call themselves the United States of America.  

Note: please be creative when writing your background paragraph…don’t just plug your country into the above paragraph.  There are many ways countries begin…civil war, military coups, military conquest, quiet revolution, etc…
