This was a sensitive topic since in their culture getting interest and paying interest is stated as a negative concept, and it's important to be mindful of the student's individual beliefs and values. I framed "interest" as a measure of personal development. I explained that both borrowing and lending money involve an exchange of value: borrowers pay lenders for the use of their money, while banks pay depositors for the use of their funds to operate their business. The lesson was conducted with sensitivity and respect.
