As a nurse, I am constantly researching and new data and guidelines the keep current for the school year, how to do certain procedures, brushing up on certain disease processes, because you never know what will happen and who will need medical attention.

Teaching with meds etc

Educating children/students is a huge part of our job especially when one is in the nurses office for daily medication administration (diabetics) or with someone who might need and emergency medication (bleeding disorder/seizure disorder). A teach back method with the proper population is imperative because it can assure the nurse they have heard and understand what is being taught.

As a school nurse I am focusing on the health and safety of our students and to help prepare them in the future if they use daily medications/emergency medications so they know what they should do, side effects, what to look for if they need it.
