When I grow up, I want to be a chef, but for the assignment I will be a welder. You might not know that a welder is a STEM job, but it is, and they face problems, problems like the risk of Safety hazards like burns, eye damage, electrical shock, cuts, and crushed toes and fingers. But Many of these can be controlled with proper work practices and personal protective equipment also known as (PPE) for short.

Carpenters use stem because they need to find how long and wide the piece of wood they need to cut or put together. Another way carpenters use stem is that they are engineers, they build and make stuff. A problem with carpentry is that you can get hurt easily because there is many tools that can hurt you. A solution to that might be that we can either make tools safer, or we can have a nurse to help someone, in case of injury.

For this assignment my stem job will be Welding, welding uses the engineering part of stem which consists of reading blueprints, also it uses math because of fractions and formulas, in my area it is hard to become a welder due to the lack of offered schooling, one way we could fix it is by offering more classes and more instruction to lead people towards the career, the job also offers many aspects such as working on cars, buildings, and even underwater! it is a profession that melds technical expertise with creative finesse. My career is a jeweler. They make design and repair jewelry. They can earn around $46,000 and need to graduate HS plus be an apprentice. It used STEM by using tools and technology to create the jewelry pieces as well as knowledge of gemstones and precious metals. A problem for a jeweler is that they can start running out of the materials for jewelry. My solution is we can either melt the old jewelry and make new using them or use artificial gems and metals.

For this stem project I chose writer. Writers use stem by writing informational and scientific books and writing for the local newspaper. Being a writer, although not needing a scholarship or degree, requires a good education, especially in ELA too make a good book. A problem writers face is that they must make a worthwhile book that will get people to read it, or otherwise their book will not sell, and the writers will not get money to live and will have to make another book. A good solution is by simply putting in effort, which most writers are doing and is why books take so long to come out. Being a writer also has many opportunities for creativity in storytelling and writing, and it doesn’t matter if you are writing an informative passage on the Oregon trail, a children’s book on American history, or even a science fiction book on space aliens, writers can use creativity in many ways. The average salary is $60,799 per year. Writing requires talent, and it takes good writers too make good stories or articles. Writers who write a good book or good article may be unknowingly or knowingly helping a child’s education and language arts skills, and may even be creating future writers, or may just be making a simple encyclopedia or entertaining book for people to read. Everyone can be a writer. It doesn’t matter if you an Average Joe like you and me or a person who lives in a Californian mansion, everyone can be a writer.

The other way that this job is stem is because there is photography. A problem that would happen with being an underwater filmmaker is that you can forgot to rechange the oxygen tank and you wouldn’t be able to breath. I picked a welder for my STEM career. A welder is a person who fuses 2 or more pieces of metal together with intense heat. You work with a lot of different metals and use different techniques like welding machines and torches. You have to have a steady hand, and be able to understand blueprints, drawings and welding symbols. Welders work in many industries like construction, automotive, manufacturing, shipbuilding, aerospace and oil and gas. A problem that can happen when you are a welder is not having enough real life practice and just starting a job. What you learn in school is different from doing a real job. What you can do for this problem is practice on spare pieces of metal first before you start the job. Another problem could be not practicing safety. A way to fix this problem is making sure you have safety glasses, hearing protection, safety boots and a helmet. If you do not have safety glasses a piece of metal can fly into your eyes. If you do have boots, a heavy piece of an object can fall on your foot. Pennsylvania made the list of the top five states that have the highest employment levels for welders. In some states, welders have to be licensed.

I picked my STEM career as underwater filmmaker. A problem you can see is all of the pollution in the ocean and even traps that get animals stuck in them. A way you can help would be to film it like a documentary so you can show people how bad pollution is for the ocean and traps and what it does to the ocean and the animals. Maybe more people would not litter or try to help with cleaning it up. And maybe people that use traps would see that it hurts some of the animals.

A lot of underwater filmmakers work for their own production companies as independent contractors. Some work in zoos or aquariums. You need to be very confident and comfoertabe in the water and you need to be able to keep calm and have a clear head when emergencies a=happen. You need a lot of Equpment too and it is not cheap. Like a wet suit, oxygen tank, diving mask, flippers, water proof video camera. You should do research on the animals and the area where you will be filming too.

I want to be a cosmetologist because doing hair is one of my favorite things to do since I have bad hair I find it fun to try to fix it and style it. one way they use STEM is they have to do math so they get the hair cut symmetrical. Another way is they have to use science to mix the dyes together (hair dyes have chemicals in it so they have to be carful when mixing it because they could destroy the persons hair). One problem could be that a cosmetologist cut someone's hair wrong and they were going to sue the salon, how they could fix it is a tool that has a stencil on it so you can cut it without as many mistakes, but there is always a downside and one downside is that you go to grab the stencilsizers and the stencil cam unglued, how to fix it is to nail it down so it does not come unglued. (On the picture the little paper laying on it that is just because I was going to put the typing (so was going to be wrighting) on there but I messed up and the stencilsizers where so hard to draw so I just used paper to cover it up.) (I do not know why the font changed so sorry for that)

I am interested in a future career in software engineering. A software engineer could help solve a problem for any career. As an example, a carpenter needs to know if their roof design and materials will survive a hurricane or tornado. I could work with a carpenter to understand roof design. I would also need assistance from a meteorologist to model the winds from the storms. Carpenters could then use my simulation to know how to build safer homes for their customers.

I picked fashion designer as my career! One problem they might have is having a hard time coming up with new cool stuff, as a fashion designer you have to come up with new unique designs and if you’ve been one for a long time it could be hard cause you want it to be unique and original and you don’t wanna do the same thing as someone on accident. A way you can prevent is coming up with something and then checking places to make sure no one has done it and how to come up with new ideas you could look at patterns, colors, go out and see stuff being a fashion designer is kind of like being a artist you have to be creative and think outside of the box. One way a fashion designer could use stem is they need proper grammar to present their design like on a runway you can’t show somebody something and spell it wrong or it not make sense. When I grow up I would like to be an underwater filmmaker because I have always enjoyed the water, and swimming. I also enjoy taking pictures and videos to make collaborations with my friends. Underwater Filmmakers use biology and photography/videography stem skills. They use the study of the ocean and sea life and creatures, which is the biology of the career and they also use the photography and videography to capture the real situation underwater that most people cant see.

As a Underwater Filmmaker I could help spread awareness and attempt to save sea creatures, especially the sea turtles. By creating a documentary on how the plastic ring waste from our six packs of pop, is killing and deforming the sea turtles and other helpless ocean and water life. Using my biology skills to give facts and inform the public of the dangers of continuing to use these plastic rings and not disposing of them correctly. Until we can get rid of these all together people should cut them through completely with scissors and recycle the leftovers.

One day I would like to try and be an underwater filmmaker for the purpose of showing the world our oceans are polluted and that we have amazing fish and coral that live there. I would have to go to school for filmmaking and cinematography, so I could learn how to record and produce my films of the ocean for all to see. I would make about 400 to 800 dollars a day doing this. I would also need to like the water and sea life if I really did this for a job. I also don't like how our ocean is polluted so we need people to want to help keep it clean. Being an underwater filmmaker could be fun but could be dangerous too if you don't know how to work your oxygen tank. I would need to learn about that too.
