Dear Ruta Sepetys,

I have recently read your novel titled "Out of the Easy" and I wanted to write to you in regards to your novel.

When I first heard about your novel from my school librarian I didn't think that I would enjoy it as much as I did. Your novel was highly recommended and I wanted to see what it was about. After reading the blurb, I was instantly interested to read your novel. You could even say it changed my view on a few things.
This novel has changed the way I see people. Your novel taught me that not everyone is what they seem. I really connected with the main character Josie Moraine. She was so quiet and intrigued with her studies and with books. I could feel a connection with her when a girl from Smith college came into the book shop and talked to her about college. When she was struggling through the application process I really felt as if I was her in the novel, because I too was applying to colleges.
Josie really didn't care what people had to say about her and her family background. She really persevered through all the rough times she had. She showed me that no matter what people think of you, if you have a great support system behind you and you know who you are in your heart then thats all that really matters.
Your novel also showed me that things will happen in your life suddenly that you aren't prepared for. For example, when Willie took Josie away from New Orleans to Shady Grove, she had no idea what was going to happen and long she was going to be away for. This showed me that things in life will happen unexpectedly and you won't ever be ready for them.
Your novel really opened up my mind to a lot of different things that I was once close minded about. The way this novel was written was a different style and I found it enjoyable. I would recommend this work to peers.

Sincerely,

Kaitlyn Stewart

Dear Ted Dekker,

I have recently read your remarkable thriller novel titled "Kiss" and I write this letter with regards to your work.

I first was informed about "Kiss" thanks to the librarian at my high school, she mentioned that oddly, many male students decide not to read your novel as they think it is more of a girl book, and that is exactly the reason why I chose to read it, it was intriguing to hear the synopsis of the book and on the back cover, even more curiosity bedazzled my mind as I read the words, "...packed with romance, politics, science, the ideal subjects in order to make a fantastic thriller.
The woman in the book Shauna is struck with misfortune for having suffered an automotive accident that caused her to enter in coma and the status of her brother who was with her is unknown. Waking up in a hospital bed with so many doctors asking questions left to right, overwhelming you so much and you fail to remember six months ago in which the tragedy happen is one of the most scariest things I could have ever imagined. Thank you for enlighting me on how precious life is and how many of us take it for granted, we should all be thankful to even see another day.
Sincerly, Isaac Sauceda

Dear Kathryn Lasky,
I just want to say thank you for being able to write some great writings, during my younger days, I used to read your most top selling book called "Wolves of the Beyond," while I was reading, I was inspired to read more of this book. Even though this book was only for about children's from the ages of 10 through 15, I still loved reading it, including myself today. My favorite animal is wolves, I liked the way they work together as a pack and take care of each other, unfortunately for the first book, it starts out a tragic tale, when a wolf pup was doomed to drown because of his big difference in birth, but was destined to be saved by a bear. That wolf would someday make a huge difference in the land of the beyond, making lots of friends, enemies, and having lots of adventures, which includes the end of their beloved land, and forcing them to migrate towards an impossible trek, with certain doom along the way, towards the new world; and that's how I now and always love this book. I love the adventure, the climax, the tensions, and it's something that I can easily read and picture it in my mind than any other books I have read. So far, I have all the copies, and someday, I'm going to read these to my children, and my grandchildren, and treasure this book for eternity.

Sincerely

Bryan Allen

Dear Maya Angelou,
I have recently read your poem, Still I Rise. Reading this poem I imagined an African American woman narrating, trying to show that she is not nothing more than a piece of existence or just a slave. You began with "You may write me down in history with your bitter, twisted lies". By this, you're referring as a realistic concept and then begins to open the reader's mind in this woman's point of view. I believe this woman wanted to get her word at that she is a strong woman where she, or any other woman, should not be treated the way she has been treated and that there is much more to a girl. The woman speaking I see speaking describes she has been receiving unnecessary treatment for walking, talking, or laughing with the amount of confidence she holds and I believe neither she nor anyone should be treated this way for having courage and enjoying themselves.
Reading your poem made me feel that a woman is something special, ancient and wonderful and that when I woman feels as if she has been discouraged or looked down upon because of her gender, then she or someone should recommend her reading this poem so that she can take a deep breath and physically sit a little bit taller because of your words.
After reading this, I feel I can personally thank you for somehow giving me, and every other girl who has read your poem, confidence and the way you put it in your choice of words was a fantastic way to get your message through and that your message has successfully been received.
                                      Sincerely,
                                  Corina Dorrell

Letter to Sally Gardner

Dear Sally Gardner,

I have recently read your book, Maggot Moon, and it has been a source of inspiration to me throughout my everyday life. The entire book itself is very well written and thought out. I can tell that you put a lot of love and work into this story. Once I opened the cover, I couldn’t put it down! Despite the all of the character’s unfortunate circumstance of being trapped in a nation that oppresses its people and abuses their power, are all very relatable and exciting to be read about. The writing itself is heart-wrenching and inspiring all whenever it needs to be, and it brought tears to my eyes on more than one occasion.

Due to your novel, I am constantly thinking about how those in power might just be there for power. As someone with the lowest ranking officer position in my JROTC, I have to follow several people above me. There is a person who shares a striking resemblance to the character Hans Fielder. He receives a surplus of privileges and rewards because his father has an important position, despite it being unfair to the rest of us. It might make a difference if he was, at the very least, humble about it. He’s not, and it would become really frustrating having to do some of the things he tells me to do. Your book changed me in that it made me realize that he is, in many ways, like me. He’s just a young kid who is trying to do the best with what he has. Albeit, he has a little more than I do. Nevertheless, he has a voice and thoughts of his own, like me, and he just wants to voice them. Though he’s cowardly and unfair, it was only how he was brought up, not because he is a monster. As a matter of fact, he is not a monster at all. He is human, he is young, and he has much to learn about the world still, as we all do.

Truly, this was an amazing read, and I hope to see more works by you in the future!

Sincerely,

Gwendolyn Nguyen
