The schools used other ideas from schools throughout Europe. This idea of 'primary school' was a copy of German and French schools. Students would attend 'primary school' for four years and then after that, students would go to secondary school' for three years and onto university for four years. The students learned writing, math, science, Greek history, art, and gym, but girls were taught the 'female arts.' At the end of each semester, there were tests for all students to take. Students must go to school from kindergarten to tenth grade. After that, students have the option to stop their education but most do continue their education and graduate. All classes are taught in their native language, Greek. It is not until college, that some colleges require students to speak only English in the classroom. Students take classes that are 45 minutes long like math, science, gym, music, dance, Greek language, and history. There are no tests from primary to secondary school. The only tests the students take are in college, in which there are only two: a mid-term and a final. Public schools are funded by the government.
