These jobs included cremating bodies, disposing of ashes, leading new prisoners to the gas chambers, and a lot of other horrific jobs. Along with these men, there were five women, four were Jewish, who helped supply the Sonderkommando with explosives. After wounding and killing some SS the men of Kommando 59-B cut the fence to the camp and escaped to a nearby wood. After hearing the revolt at Crematorium VI the men of Kommando 57-B started their revolt. At Crematorium II they cut the fence to head south-west to a sub-camp. The men found safety in a barn. The SS burned down the barn. With the knowledge that they were going to be killed and replaced, the men at Crematorium VI attacked the SS. A Jew named Chain Neuhof approached SS Busch and yelled the code word "Hurrah" which started the revolt. Neuhof struck the man with a hammer and then the men at Crematorium VI attacked the SS. Then the men using hand made grenades, from the explosives they made, blew up Crematorium VI. They then escaped into the wood nearby. After hearing the fight the men at Crematorium II started their revolt. They threw a man into a furnace and burned him to death while another was beaten to death. The men then grabbed some weapons and cut the fence. After escaping the men of Kommando 57-B headed south-west to the sub-camp at Rajsko. The men found a barn that they sought refuge in. However, the SS set it on fire and shot any man caught fleeing. SS men with trucks soon surrounded the area and stopped the revolt. An Auschwitz fire team put out the fire at Crematorium VI. Along with these 450 men who died the nazis identified the 5 women who helped smuggle explosives to the Sonderkommando. They set up a loud shout, hurled themselves upon the guards with hammers and axes, wounded some of them, the rest they beat with what they could get at, they pelted them with stones without further ado."
