Reflecting on the countless connections that Stanley Park has to offer, I feel like it would be a fantastic environment to invite students for a Walking Curriculum that focuses on really using one's senses to experience the land. Additionally, it would be worthwhile to introduce self-regulation and meditation techniques, while encouraging self-reflection. This in turn could potentially provide a rich introspection and different perspective in students' journaling or even poetry writing.

It is an important part of the ecosystem especially for salmon. Salmon spawn their eggs in the gravel bed of the river. The logs and hanging bushes provide the salmon with shelter from predators. The canopy shields the sun and keeps the water temperature cool. Finally, when the wind blows, the salmon are able to eat the many bugs that fall into the water. Students can learn about the importance of protecting the river for the salmon and other animals. There are beautiful trails where you can do a texture walk/mindfulness walk and you can learn about the history of Fort Langley and the land itself. There are not many signs posted around the beach that provide information on the location or Indigenous land acknowledgements. Crescent Beach would be a great location to bring students to explore and can be used to teach content from the BC curriculum. When the tide is out at the beach it gives students freedom to explore living and non-living organisms which could be connected to content and curricular competencies for a Science unit. Crescent beach is a great place for an outdoor field trip as there are a lot of different curricular connections to make and various activities to do with students. Bringing students to this beach would be a great visual method to teach them about certain topics in Science such as living and non-living things. The focus of the field trip can also be teaching students about sea creatures and the environment. Further, students would have an opportunity to connect with the land which can be done by doing mindful breathing and incorporating the idea of sit spots into the exploration. The class could also do a guided walk together where students can complete a sound mapping activity as they walk. Throughout the many times I have explored Tynehead, there is many signs you see scattered throughout the park reminding us to be conscious of our actions as we walk amongst such a sensitive habitat. This is one of the big reminders as people walk along that there are many living things that should be left alone within the park as they live here, including insects.

I have always loved coming to this park and walking down the stairs to walk along the beach and look out towards the ferry terminal. I remember doing beach clean up's here when I was in elementary school and I feel as if there is a lot of learning to be done at this place. Since being placed at a school that values outdoor learning so much, I find myself trying to find the deeper meaning in all things of nature and using nature as a tool for learning in all aspects. I had no idea differnet species of birds are often sighted in this area; I'm glad I discovered it now. Surrey Lake Park is a great area to help young students explore and discover living and non-living thing. It would be great to set up a scavenger hunt for students to explore the land. Student can explore the lake and other sources of water, the birds, the trees and their fallen leaves and even have a dicussion about the golf course which directly beside the lake. It is situated in the midst of suburbs and is close to a handful of elementary schools. I found it very relaxing to sit and listen to all the sounds that surrounded me. This area links to Grade 1 science because it helped “demonstrate curiosity and a sense of wonder about the world”. Can be used to take a class for a bike riding trip. Many "routes" with clear difficulty ratings signage. the bottom level has a creek and a walking trail that goes through from one end of the park to the other. Awesome place to "feel surrounded" as the creek is sandwiched between 2 tall hills. Hard to find a place like this so close to an urban setting. There was no evidence of this in trails we explored however, there was notice given to the protection of the wildlife that live in the surrounding creeks and environment. 

There were also signs acknowledging that the land was logged in the mid 1800's when a mill was opened, clearing the land and bringing settlers and development to the area.

I see lots of opportunity here to experience and interpret the local environment with students and encourage them to explore the land using their senses. To do this, one activity you could try is sound mapping your walk through the trails.
