I originally discussed maintaining a childlike imagination. However, this was originally a want. I wanted to keep a childlike imagination when it came to collaboration- yet as the semester progressed I realized this can’t be a want. It is a need for successful collaboration. The values I held at the beginning of the semester were crucial to creating an effective collaborative environment. Recognition, another topic I mentioned, and gratitude overall is NEEDED to create a positive work space. There are times when the idea you had, in your head, is the best idea in the history of the world. Yet since there are other collaborators, you must recognize their input, recognize their worth, recognize their background, their strengths, their weaknesses: and work effectively to combine all of the positives and negatives into one project- including your own. For much of the devising work, I had a multitude ideas. However, I recognized the talent of my peers and we were able to progress collectively. We all have something to contribute and add to the equation. We must use our childlike imagination to create a concoction of stories and backgrounds that we can weave into a singular piece of theatre, or art, or music, or whatever else it may be.   ]]> 2022-04-13 05:09:14 UTC https://padlet.com/ashleydiaz3/hjcfzu3nknwku3hn/wish/2141935447 ashleydiaz3 https://padlet.com/ashleydiaz3/hjcfzu3nknwku3hn/wish/2141946569 When I first began this semester- I was very weary of a little something known to many as “Groupthink.” Groupthink is an idea that essentially means that ideas are being swept under the rug to appease one person or to make the process easier rather than going through every idea thoroughly and giving it a chance. However, as the semester progressed, my fear of this subsided. The more we collaborated, the more we were confident with our ideas and eager to share our ideas and ready to communicate and use constructive criticism on each other and ourselves. This was especially true during the design portion of this class. When we created our design project, we all had come into class with several different ideas each. Then we shared, and we picked groups based on interest. Once we got into these groups, we all were able to divide what parts of our projects would work really nicely together. We disagreed, like any group would, yet we talked it through, and heard various points of view on the subject. This was the exact opposite of groupthink. However, this time we were partnered and we discussed what we love about theatre. After hearing the input from my peers, I was reminded why I have these aspirations and goals. I had heard new input on the reasons why theatre is so captivating, and loved by so many. After class, I had even more reasons why I loved it myself.  Another time that resonated with me was during a writing workshop where we were able to explore what we would like to see on stage that day. I communicated with my peers on this and it was, once again, exciting to see their faces light up when they discussed the things they were hopeful for on stage or what they would do if they had a budget of all the money in the world. Even the mere discussion of the reasons why we love theatre, and what we want to see were free of judgment. These conversations were open to the idea of play and whimsy, and they were collaborative in and of themselves. I think that was another wonderful thing.
