Immortal palms could mean ideas and hindered by the name of goodness could be people, it’s saying don’t let people bring you down. “Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind”. This means that your ideas are right in your own mind, you will understand right from wrong as you continue to make own ideas for yourself.

When he says "...envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better." To be jealous is to be foolish.
