Her parents taught her the importance of family, and this encouraged her to remain close to both her family, as well as her husband's family. Due to how close Carol and her family were, the hardest thing she has ever had to do was bury her parents. She misses them every day, but she knows that they will always be with her.

Growing up, they lived together in a house with their parents, and Carol's aunt! Their house had a total of 5 people living in it, but there were only 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Carol shared a bedroom with her Aunt Mary, who was a nurse! Carol said that her Aunt taught her about how to truly be a good person. Her aunt taught her about compassion, empathy, and how important it is to remain close to family. Growing up in her house, Carol was taught to, "never linger in the bathroom!" Carol knew all of her neighbors. She explained her living situation as, "tight and close," but she loved it anyway!

One of her favorite memories with her dad is sitting at the table with him doing math homework. Carol thinks that math was her favorite subject growing up because her dad helped her study!
