University of Queensland, a beautiful place that traditional and modern architectures coexist. A place that made me wonder whether I was walking through the city's garden or a university. Coming from a chaotic city, I haven't heard of the sound of insects buzzing, birds chirping, or more in a very long time. UQ was nothing like my university back in Thailand where everything was busy and everyone was in a hurry. Peaceful was the word that first popped up in my mind when I first got here. Everyone was more laid back and would actually take time to go enjoy themselves and hangout around the great court. To me, UQ was one peaceful city.

Forgan Smith building is the first building of UQ St Lucia campus. The construction began in 1937 and fully completed in 1939. The building was a two-story concrete framed structure clad in sandstone. The core structure was made from concrete and bricks, clad with granite, sandstone, and marble. The building was decorated with nine sections of sculptured friezes depicting Queensland history and aspects of learning. The building not only meant to be practical but at the same time representing the importance of the university and the state.
http://www.uq.edu.au/crossroads/Archives/Vol%205/Issue%202%202011/Vol5Iss211%20-%206.Moore%20(p.19-33).pdf

The Global Change Institute (GCI) is one of the three sustainable educational facilities in Queensland to receive the ‘6 Star Green Star’ from the Green Building Council of Australia. This innovative building is part of the sustainability project that will change the normal office into the living building. The interesting point of this success is that the building can consume fewer resources and contribute more to the regeneration of environment and society.
http://www.gci.uq.edu.au/building
