My name is Katelyn Pino. I am currently a 16-year-old junior attending COHEA. All of my family members were born in Havana, Cuba but I was born in Miami, Florida and all of my family members currently live in America. Some of my hobbies and interest I have include baking, writing, watching plays, going out with friends, and traveling. My favorite movie would be Coraline and my favorite show currently is A Series of Unfortunate Events. Additionally, my favorite genres of music would be pop, R&B, and indie. For fun or during my free time I like to find dessert recipes to try baking myself. My favorite types of food would be Italian and American. I would say the best restaurant in Miami would be Flanigan’s, a restaurant that is mainly known for it seafood but has variety of foods on their menu, and there are a multitude of locations across South Florida. The coolest place to check out in Miami would be the Superblue Museum. It is a highly interactive museum with various activities and breathtaking art pieces on display.

Future Plans

One of my futures plans is to graduate high school with both my High School Diploma and Associated Degree. After High School when I grow up I would like to become a credible anesthesiologist for a well known and high profile hospital. I want to aim to become one of the best in the field and gain a good reputation so future patients can trust me as their anesthesiologist. My dream school to pursue my future career would be the University of Miami or Nova Southeastern University. If I were to go to a future school out of state I would like to go to Duke University or Stanford University. My dream job is to become an anesthesiologist or have any job that is in the medical field. A backup job I would settle for would be a Radiologist position.

Achievements, Goals, & Personal Traits

One thing I am proud of is the academic achievements I’ve made throughout my life. Some of my accomplishments would be having multiple advanced classes, choosing to pursue a medical career, and taking on dancing ad a hobby. In the future I hope to accomplish attending one of my dreams schools, becoming an anesthesiologist, and continuing to dance for fun during my free time. One of my strengths would be my baking skills, I own various baking tools and bake anything that sounds good once a week. When my family holds parties I am the designated baker and prepare dessert for my family whenever it is needed. One weakness would be my shyness and how introverted I am. I never liked public speaking or presenting in or out of school and prefer to be quite and listen to someone else talk to me. I believe that it is very important to keep on improving in life, although I am happy with where I am right now I don’t think that should mean that improvement is not in the picture. Improvement is very important but constantly I think would be very overwhelming and that everyone should move at their own pace but never settle for the bare minimum.

On Top of the World

I felt on top of the world when I went to Universal a few years ago and rode The Hulk when I was around 12-years-old. Ever since then I’ve grown a love for roller coasters and go to amusement parks very often for the rides. Back in 2021 I went to an amusement park called Dollywood in Tennessee and I rode every single roller coaster in the park in one day. That has to be my favorite amusement park because the height of the rides were unbelievable and on ever roller coaster I felt on top of the world. It was very exhilarating and I would love to go again next year.

Embarrassing Moment

The most embarrassing thing that happened to me happened on December 30, 2023 when I was traveling to Boone, North Carolina. The day before on the 29th it snowed heavily where my cabin was located and the drive way was covered in snow and ice. The cabin was located on top of a mountain so me and my family couldn’t drive down without the car sliding dangerously on the way down, because of this we all decided to stay at the cabin this day and play in the snow. My uncle found some inflatables left behind by the cabin owners we rented from and used them as makeshift sleds to sled down the driveway. First my brothers went down together and came back up, after their turn I went down the driveway, however, my uncle who stopped my brothers from sliding too far down the driveway walked back up not realizing that I was going down next. While sliding down my uncle realized and tried to run after me to stop me from crashing but he was too late. I ran over a branch which caused me to flip over and roll down the driveway all the way to the bottom. I was okay thankfully but I was kind of embarrassed and my family were all laughing after they realized I was okay.

If I were a Teacher

If I were a teacher I think the type of assignments that would be most helpful with students are interactive activities or group activities. Assignments where you can collaborate and get feedback from others or where students can work together to complete the activity would be the most helpful in terms of the students retaining the information. I personally learn best through example so being able to see others work and earn off of it helps me learn the most. I also learn when someone tells me the information instead of just writing it down. A fun assignment or project that would make this class exciting would be a project/assignment where the students can select a famous figure of their choice and write an essay on the figure corresponding to an interesting prompt. Some skills that I would like to learn is higher vocabulary and how to improve my argumentative writing. Some characteristics of a perfect classroom to me would be a positive atmosphere and a comfortable environment. With a comfortable atmosphere in a classroom and with students feeling comfortable it will promote learning and even have students anticipating going to class.
