Born in 1859, George Seurat is considered one of the most important post-impressionist painters - meaning that he reacted against the "naturalism" of the impressionists, to explore the colour, line, and form of art. At the start of his art journey, Seurat was taught to paint by Henri Lehman at the École des Beaux-Arts school in Paris; studying the pieces of early Italian and 17th century French artists. In his artworks, Seurat combined a traditional approach, based on his training, with some modern techniques. Some of his pieces include: A River Bank, The Morning Walk, and The Channel of Gravelines, Grand Fort-Phillipe. He passed away in 1891, at just 32.
