At the start of the book talks a lot about religion, this can be directed to the mom because she is Jewish. In the book we know that she was not a part of their family for 50 years, they would not contact her in any way. She would also tell her children that she converted to Christianity once the family didn't care about her. She chose to live around black people with black children and there was people judging her not knowing she was a mother of 12.

"Heads up, town" This quote stands out to me knowing that the author even as a kid was always motivated, his mom did everything for them to be happy and do everything with motivation. This was significant because we get to know how the mom treated them, and as any other mom she made sure to always keep them updated with everything.

The words choice that the author uses are unique for me, he changes the perspective based on what hes talking about but when hes on his moms perspective, he makes sure to make the mom talk on her own.

Rhetorical devices strategies enhance the story by using emotions on how each character felt, and also making sure to use years for the dates to be accurate.

The relationship in the beginning and end of the chapter is different. For example, when we read a chapter from the mother's perspective, the author talks at the end of the chapter knowing that it is his mom's.
