Although the NAFTA agreement has generated lots of growth in the economy for Canada, it has caused loss of jobs for Canadians and has made Canada's economy reliant on the United States economic activity. Many Canadians feel that if NAFTA was dissolved or even revamped, it would lead to more independent and successful economic growth for Canada.

This has lead to a substantial increase in the Canadian agriculture industry. The United States is Canada's leading export market, purchasing about 60% of Canada's agriculture export. NAFTA has allowed there to be greater and more secure access to trading from Canada to the United States which has in turn generated economic growth within Canada. More jobs in the agricultural industry have been created and this helps to promote Canadian farmers.

NAFTA has permitted these three countries to not only produce within themselves, but for companies to produce in unison. The agreement has also lead to large interest from foreign investors that provide each country with more opportunity to generate more economic growth. Without the security from NAFTA, the crucial investments that are essential to market growth would not happen.

NAFTA was signed in 1994 by Brian Mulroney, George Bush, and Carlos Salinos. The idea behind NAFTA was that it would lead to the production of cheaper goods which would then lead to greater economic growth. NAFTA also lowered tariffs on goods and made it easier to trade among the 3 countries.

It has allowed the industry to manufacture products for a fraction of the previous cost and has incorporated all 3 countries into automobile manufacturing. President Donald Trump has ideas of changing the NAFTA agreement and the automobile industry worries that this could have adverse effects on production. Without the agreement, trading would become more difficult and more expensive.
