In this picture it is showing a women being arrested during the witch hunt of 1892. The Puritans had thought that Satan was trying to ruin their perfect town. Not only that, but the Puritans believe he was present, and destroying their village through people he taught witchcraft to. Many people were actually accused of witchcraft because other didn't want to be accused of such atrocities. Many would lose their property, kids and life as a whole and had to spend numerous months in jail.

These were the Puritans. The Puritans were a group of English Protestants that had came over to America on the Mayflower in 1620. Their goal was to purify the Church of England by eliminating all aspects of Catholicism from all practices. They believed they were sent on a mission of God. They actually created the ivy league schools which are some of the most prestige schools today.

These were the girls originally accused of witchcraft who turned it on others and started the Salem Witch Trials of 1892. The accused and went after people who were on the lower levels of society who didn't attend church. Some include homeless people, bartenders and those who didn't go to church at all. Usually it would be taken to a witch trial and once taken, The girls contorted into grotesque poses, fell down into frozen postures, and complained of biting and pinching sensations. In a village where everyone believed that the devil was real close at hand and acted in the real world. If one would come clean and admit to being a witch, the charges weren't as bad and there was no chance of death while if you didn't there was a decent possibility you would die.

The witch hunt had spread across the town. Completely destroying it as a whole. It went so far that it had actually reached other cities and towns as well. One man Giles Corey was accused of witchcraft, and never said anything. So the Puritans put stones on his chest in belief that it would force him to speak. Eventually, the weight of the stones ended up killing him.

Originally, the Puritans had come over at the wrong time and would've starved to death if it weren't for the Natives. The Natives gave them shelter and had a big feast which we now call Thanksgiving. They wanted to create a pure religion and pure government where God made all the decisions. They didn't like the Roman-Catholic church or the Church of England. They believed in Calvinism and predestination. That it was decided before you were born whether you were going to heaven or hell and you couldn't change that.
