Why it is important to ask for and offer help

The textbook makes a good point when it says, "Our
society is often considered a do-it-yourself for anything and everything. It is the norm and even encouraged," (13). For this reason, many find it hard to offer and/or accept help, even with simple things.

If you wan to show someone you care, offer to help. The text stated, "By offering before they need to ask you, you are showing that you care about them," (14). This can then improve both their mental health and your own by showing gratitude.

If the thing they need help with may hurt them if they do it alone, for example, moving a couch, then it will benefit their health for you to help. Again, you will both he happy in the end. It is important that we show gratitude and politeness to others by offering help.

Also, when you ask someone for help it will let them know you value their opinion.

I was working on a very challenging essay that I thought I could do on my own. Unfortunately I was thinking similarly to that of what the textbook mentioned, "Ask yourself if you're doing it all because you're too perfectionistic," (14). My mom had offered to help since she saw it was causing me stress. I refused at first but then I realized that it would be better if I just accepted the help. In the end, my mom felt important since I wanted her help, and I was happy to have a helpful mother and to have my essay done!
