Writing is the art of combining words to express ideas. It differs from speaking because one does it in written form, so the communication with your reader is delayed. Therefore one has the time to play with ideas and words, and the form of the message is more intentional. Usually, it has a very utilitarian purpose, but sometimes it can express one's inner feelings.

For me, writing is the mean for linking with many people cause nowadays we write wvery single moment and it is in a variety of ways; we could be formal or informal, kind or agressive, creative, persuated, etc. Writing let me interact with the people qho neesa to be in communication with me and I with them.

It is one of the hardest skills in any given language. In my opinion, it is the second most important one, due to the fact that, we mainly communicate through speaking, but when it is time to put your spoken words into text, there is the tricky part.

Writing implies that, not only you can use the words as you hear or listen to them, but that you have the correct background, knowledge, literacy, fluency, and, overall, skills to create a coherent and cohesive piece of text –for whatever the reason you write, that is-. Additionally, there’s a dreadful moment that everyone who writes something, must be really well aware of, but, more importantly must be able to cope with: PROOFREADING YOURSELF, that is when you start to second guessing, hate your text, and sometimes, question “what in the name of God have I just written”.

All in all, that is what writing is; it is both an extremely hard ability to master, and at the same time, an incredibly rewarding one.

Most of us have the need to write in different contexts to communicate a variety of ideas, messages, thoughts, etc. So, in the process of learning English is quiet necessary to dedicate considerable time and resources to perfect this skill.

Writing could be the most difficult skill to develop and improve because one must take in account many different aspects to assess it, e.g. grammar, vocabulary, functions, spelling, among others. As a productive skill, it must be very clear who the text is aimed to, and what is the purpose of it in order to consider including all the necessary elements to accomplish the process of communication. As the language can very complex in some ‘writing situations’, there is a need to continue improving this skill, so it is a never-ending process. It is a skill hard to acquire and to assess.

Also, away to express congrats, sorry or how I feel. Moreover, it might be a formal requirement from an authority to get a right.

The variety of kinds of writing is reach enough for us to take them into account. For instance, a postcard is a lovely way to keep in touch with someone who you'd like to be with you, but they can't or and email to a person who used to be a co-worker and exchange experiences at work. Another example is a text via whatsapp just to say hi! or encourage someone. In addition, I often write down a devotional. Last but not least east, I' m used to writing in a diary all activities I must do or to register new habits or a new routine.

"Not again writing"...that is the most common thought of my students when I assign them with a task involving "writing". They cannot completely understand the tremendous importance this has in true life.

But... what is writing? Writing is the process of using the letters, words, punctuation and spaces to communicate or express a thought or an idea to the world. Why is it so important for these students that hate writing to actually write corectly? I think the main reason is it may be their presentation card to an unknown world. It can show a lot about the repertory of words they have and the knowledge on how to use them adequately to express their ideas and needs. Examples? They may want to study abroad...and in order to do so, they´re going to need to write a motivation letter. In applying for a job...another presentation letter or e-mail. In order to communicate with friends or relatives or loved ones that are far away: e-mails. A love conquest? Write a poem or a romantic letter. The power of good writing is enormous.

Moreover, it has the advantage of being able to be reread and corrected if the intention is not met.

Conveying messages in a written format not only allows the author the time to think through what and how the message is to be portrayed, but it also allows the reader to reread, analyze the message and even perhaps meditate and internalize it.

To me, writing has always been a means to expressing my inner thoughts and feelings. I do not always write with the intention of others reading my lines, -except for our daily "texting"- but rather me being able to externalize and, I would dare to say, get rid of some demons in a safe -and even legal- way.

Writing is a productive task that empowers individuals to express their thoughts and ideas effectively. For English learners, writing is especially important as it helps them practice language structures, vocabulary, and grammar in a meaningful context. Evaluating writing is crucial because it helps students develop their communication skills, and fosters critical thinking and creativity, allowing students to articulate their unique perspectives. I assess writing easily using a straightforward rubric that focuses on clarity, organization, and grammar. This approach helps students identify their strengths and areas for improvement. Ultimately, writing not only enhances communication skills but also builds confidence, making it a vital part of our learning process for English learners.
