Il était le fils de John Fitzpatrick, qui fut le premier maire de Sillery de 1856 à 1859. Sir Charles est devenu un avocat reconnu en passant par le petit Séminaire de Québec et en faisant ses études en droit à l'Université Laval. Il était un excellent avocat ainsi qu'un criminaliste renommé. Il fut un député libéral dans la Chambre des communes et exerça le métier de juge en chef. Il fut également lieutenant-gouverneur du Québec pendant cinq ans tout en étant professeur de droit criminaliste à l'Université Laval. Il était surtout reconnu pour avoir été le douxième lieutenant-gouverneur du Québec. Veuve à 19 ans, elle intègre les Ursulines de Tours. Elle a du laisser son fils aux soins de sa sœur.  Marie Guyart prend le bateau en direction de la Nouvelle-France à l'âge de 27 ans, en l639, 8 ans après qu'elle soit rentée chez les Ursulines. Marie de l'incarnation est particulièrement connue pour avoir fondée les Ursulines de la Nouvelle-France et le couvent des Ursulines à Québec en 1642.  
Cette religieuse consacre une bonne partie de sa vie à l'enseignement catholique aux amérindiennes et aux françaises.
