"An army of sheep led by a lion can defeat an army of lions led by a sheep" means that even if an army is extremely talented and powerful, it will not always defeat an army who has a great leader. This proverb originated from the Nation of Ghana. Alexander the Great said something strikingly similar to this, in "I am more afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion than an army of lions led by a sheep." This proverb also says that talent will not always win, one example of this is the revolutionary war. In the revolutionary war the Americans soldiers were very close to being inadequately trained. This was because being a soldier was not their profession, but being a soldier was the profession of the people in the British Army. But because the American leaders were very tactful and smart, they were able to defeat the British. Additionally, this saying means that a great leader is more important then all-around talent. This is extremely evident in sports. Teams who have amazing coaches tend to be dominant for an extended period of time, even if the players on that sports team are not extremely talented.
