Healing spaces/places for me are natural bushland, scrub, down by the river, in my garden, on the front verandah looking out to my favourite trees. There are silences, quietness, shade, rustling leaves, babbling water, singing birds, whistling kites (hawks, birds), insects, lizards. I can just while away the time in relaxed way.

Healing Spaces for me is where I feel comfortable at the time, physical and spiritually. This can be in the bush or sitting on my lounge meditating quietly. Mostly it is out bush sitting under tree in silence, just listening to the bush and connecting with it, physically and spiritually. This will calm my thoughts and relax my body.
Pene

I have some specific places that are healing for me, one of them is in the nature, I have a special connection with a Gumtree by the creek not far from my place. During some challenging times, I felt the Gumtree really held me, embraced me physically and spiritually and provided safety, comfort and grounding (I sit at the base where the roots create a nice comfortable place). Another place is my art room, I feel safe, present and connected there. The morning sun gives me energy and courage to create. For me, healing spaces are physical places that offer conditions where my senses are not overstimulates, I can connect with myself and others. A healing space can also be a place that does not have a physical representation. It is a connection with the people I trust and feel safe with. Those are really sacred spaces. I know that they hold space for me and I have the capacity to hold space for them, there is reciprocity in our interaction and connection.

I am currently in a process of creating a healing space at the school I work at (initially it was more of a "you have some experience working with kids that misbehave, can you let us know what we need to put in a room where we going to send the students who disrupt teachers? maybe some fidget toys?" Thankfully, this now evolved into creating a safe and healing space for those who wish to use it). As it will serve the whole middle school, I believe it will be hard to create "one size fits all" healing space, I remind myself that not all students will consider this a space where they can reconnect, be present and heal. I hope over time the space will evolve and a sense of community and support will grow :)
Agnieszka
