When Jonas decided to leave the community. Jonas says "Giver," Jonas suggested, "you and I don't need to care about the rest of them,”.
In other words, Jonas wants to only care about himself and The Giver so they can leave together. The author is trying to make us see that Jonas really loves The Giver and wants him to leave with him. This passage had a significant impact on my thinking about selfish acts and what people will do for what they want.

Janas said to the giver that you and I don't need to care about the rest of them.
It was to show that caring did matter.The giver is telling this to him to prepare him on his travels as he escapes the community.
Jonas wanted the giver to come with him on his travels and the giver refused.It reveals that if jonas gets lost in the river his memories will not be with him anymore.
This quote means the giver has to stay because the bad memories will be released into the community which in a way he cares about the community.
This means to me that if the giver was speaking to me directly I would try not to get lost in the river.This quote is a lil selfish to me but In the end things seem to be worth it.
