Siege Warfare was a type of warfare in which opposing factions would partake in. Siege warfare consisted of a faction holding a tenacious defensive position. On the opposing side, there would be a well coordinated assault, using weapons like trebuchets, catapults, and battling rams in the dark and middle ages. A siege is determined when a faction encounters a city or empire that cannot be easily conquered by a quick assault. Campaigns would commonly consist of multiple sieges. These battles were mostly fought on the behalf of the Ottoman empire.

Before the Ottoman Empire was even founded the Byzantine Empire was in place which was a continuation of the Roman Empire. At the time they were one of the most powerful military forces in Europe because eastern emperors were able to exert more economic resources. When the western Roman Empire fell in 476 A.D, because of the powerful emperor the eastern half was able to last another 1000 years along with the Byzantine Empire which also continued along Rome's side. Until 1453 A.D, the Ottoman army stormed Constantinople after a few years of attacks the Ottoman Empire came out on top founding the start of the Ottoman Empire.

The Ottoman Empire fought in four major campaigns. One of these campaigns consisted of the Siege of Lule Burgas. This battle was fought between the Bulgarian Empire and the Ottoman Empire. With the Bulgarian Empire on the offensive, the Ottoman Empire was forced to fight a defensive battle. This battle was fought on the 28th of October to the 2nd of November in 1912. This battle was the largest battle ever fought before the first world war. The Bulgarian empire had previously besieged the city of Adrianople, forcing the Ottomans stationed there to retreat. The Ottomans retreated to the Lule Burgas line and the Lule Burgas town, where they were met with the 5th Danubian Infantry Division, the 4th Preslav Infantry Division, and the 6th Bdin Infantry Division. After just a day of fighting, over 5,000 Ottomans were killed and wounded. The battled resulted in over 22,000 Ottomans killed and wounded and another 20,000 Bulgarians' death and captured. There were thousands of small skirmishes that happened during the battle.

The Ottoman Empires Decline

The start of the Ottomans' decline was in 1683 when they lost 2 battles to Vienna one attempt was in 1529 where they failed and the other in 1683. The Ottomans intention was to gain control over trade routes from the Black Sea to Western Europe and Eastern Mediterranean to Germany. An attack led by John III, using a siege to defeat the Ottomans. This led the Ottomans to lose control over Hungary. The Ottomans then went into a downward spiral. The strength of other European powers arrived which also led to economic competition over trade routes. The Industrial Revolution also caused the Ottoman Empire to fall behind in technology and couldn't keep pace with the newly evolving counties and lacked factories and mills. In the 19th century the dwindling territory economic decline and dependence on the rest of Europe also caused the Ottomans lots of trouble. As WWI began the Ottomans made a secret alliance with Germany, however that didn't go to well for them killing 2/3 of their military and 3 million civilians were killed. After a crushing defeat in WWI the Ottoman Empire was pulled apart by treaty after being in a constant decline the Ottoman Empire finally came to an end.
