For the first project of the year, I wanted to straight dive in the creature I was most interested in- El Serpiente Emplumada (Feathered Serpent/Dragon). Using acrylic, I wanted to show the vivid colors of the mythical serpent. but also trying to take a more realisitc approach of what one would look like in real life as to one on rock paintings. I wanted to make it look the closest like a real snake, while still make it feel like it is a mythical dragon. This a landscape entailing the eerie mysterious jungle in which "El Hombre de Gran Pie" (Nicaragua's Bigfoot) lives. As you can see, or better yet as you can't see, the creature is extremely hidden in the painting, just as he would be in real life. As for how it reveals itself to individuals, it doesn't. I like to think this area of the jungle is mythical already as it is, with the perfect looking creek with the fantasy saturated water. This is my New and Revised Version of La Llorona, because I deeply hate my other one. This one to me is much better, but there was some changes that I probably would've made to this one. I originally wanted to make her much more gross, and dead-looking, but I wanted to make her more beautiful than grotesque. Also I wish I had made some sort of tear dripping from her face. But I had a realization that she WAS a beautiful woman before tragedy struck. As for how she reveal's herself to individuals, I feel that she turned blue not to just being drowned, but due to her now-connection with the water in which is her new home. Context: La Llorona is a vengeful ghost that is a part of Latin folklore, known as the "Weeping Woman". She lives in waterfront areas where she cries loudly over her dead children who she drowned.

Description: 
I wanted to use the opportunity of the mixed media project to do La Llorona, and I wanted her to be blue with slight hints of green. This was to represent how due to her story she is connected to water, as well as the coloration skin turns to bodies when they drown (slight coloration of blue).
I used watercolor for the background and oil pastel for the character. The Auhizotl is a mythical dog like creature that has a tail with some sort of grasping hand that drowns people in its territory. The Rahara is a sea creature of legend from Venezuela. It was interesting to research it, and there only but one drawing of the creature, but it looked like a worm-eel like fish with large teeth. I was inspired by a similarly designed real life fish called the viperfish, which was an inspiration. Living in the deep ocean reminded me of zombies, who are the creatures that live in the deep earth. By using the very little information I had on the creature, the design was very similar to a real life dinosaur named Carnotaurus. I used this as a reference while still sticking to the Stoa’s description. Living in the forest, I thought the green would be a good contrast to the black and white creature.
