Self restraint is the ability to realize and control yourself (action, behavior, etc). Toddlers do not have self restraint, so providing nurturing and guidance is needed for the toddler to know the rules of acceptable behavior. Teaching obedience will let the child know what behaviors are acceptable in society. Setting limits for toddlers ensures their safety and teaches them to become socially acceptable. since toddlers are premoral, which means they are not capable of self guidance because they do not have values, it can be tricky to teach the toddler new rules.
