The 2030 agenda is our commitment for a better world by 2030 and it includes the governments, communities, partners, and private sector. All countries are working towards the achievement of these goals and accept to go for a voluntary national review of their progress. Without being a coercive tool, many countries are aligned with it.

There are 8 goals (1, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 16, 17) which are paramount in my work at country level. The AIDS epidemic cannot be ended without the reduction of poverty, access to quality education, considering gender equality and reducing inequalities in sustainable cities and communities where peace, social justice and partnership are common values and principles.

The 2030 Agenda to me is the framework for action that member countries should be guided with and accountable for to ensure that the citizens lead dignified lives and livelihoods and achieve their fullest potential. The SDGs are not mutually exclusive - in fact they are interrelated and one cannot not be achieved without the others. I personally believe that Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goal) is a central one and a prerequisite for all the other goals. For UNAIDS, 8 SDGs are central to our work and while our mandate and targets on HIV are very clear and specific, progress on the global and country level HIV targets cannot be made without advancing on those goals.

I like that the agenda has 17 clear and ambitious goals for People and for the Planet. I agree with Eric on the power of the 5 Ps. The goal on reducing inequalities resonates more with me now that we have a global AIDS strategy with an inequalities lens. Marie- Guatemala

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a global framework adopted by UN member states in 2015, aimed at addressing economic, social, and environmental challenges through 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals, with 169 targets, cover areas such as poverty eradication, climate action, and gender equality, seeking to create a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient world by 2030.

Objective 3 of the 2030 Agenda aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. It includes 13 targets to address various health issues such as maternal and child mortality, non-communicable diseases, and communicable diseases like HIV.

Regarding HIV, target 3.3 aims to end the HIV epidemic by 2030. To achieve this goal, efforts are focused on prevention, treatment, and care of HIV, particularly in the most vulnerable populations. This includes universal access to sexual and reproductive health services, reducing stigma and discrimination, and strengthening health systems to improve early detection, screening, and monitoring of people living with HIV.

The commitment by countries to “leave no one behind” is what I like most about the 2030 agenda because it aims at ending discrimination and exclusion, and reducing the inequalities and vulnerabilities that leave people behind and undermine the potential of individuals and of humanity as a whole as well as at eradicating poverty in all its forms which predisposes to vulnerability.

The goals that resonate most with me and my work include number 10- Reduced inequalities; number 16 -peace justice and strong institutions; number 5- gender equality; number 4- quality education; number 3 – good health and wellbeing; number 1 eradication of poverty; and like mentioned by Hind of Rwanda number 17 because UNAIDS is designed work through partnerships.

The Agenda 2063 is built on progress made on the MDGs and further refined the ambitious targets urging all stakeholders to shift gears from the business as usual mode to more urgency, use of data to inform progress and commitment at all levels. Goals 3-Good Health and Wellbeing, 5-Gender Equality and Goals 10=reduced Inequalities and 17 Partnerships are fully aligned with our mandate as UNAIDS and the Global AIDS Strategy. The interrelations of the goals that success on one whiteout the others will not be good enough.

he Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to transform our world. They are a call to action to end poverty and inequality, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy health, justice and prosperity. The goal 10 which is related to reduce inequalities and goal 3 related to good health and wellbeing are well reflected in the global AIDS strategy which aims to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

The SDGs provide a set of aspirational goals that the world has agreed and is working towards ending poverty, protect the planet, improve lives and guarantee the future of humankind. While goal 3.3 specifically focuses on addressing HIV, the multisectoral response required for HIV makes it imperative for progress/action in several goals to achieve goal 3.3 by 2030. This is also an illustration of the fact that the SDG goals are not mutually exclusive – progress in one, contributes to progress in others. But perhaps more importantly, progress is required in all to ensure that the desired future of humankind is guaranteed.While many goals have a direct implication for the AIDS response, addressing SDG 10 (reduced inequalities) resonates with me as it focuses on an area that provides the prism for implementing the Global AIDS Strategy.

SDG Agenda. Leaving no one behind (LNOB) is the central, transformative promise of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. The AIDS epidemic cannot be ended without the needs of people living with and affected by HIV, and the determinants of health and vulnerability, being addressed.
The AIDS response has advanced the right to health, gender equality, human rights, employment and social protection. It has addressed entrenched social norms, social exclusion and legal barriers that undermine health and development outcomes, and its investment approach is increasingly being adopted to accelerate gains across global health and development.
UNAIDS, works towards achieving the entire SDG agenda, which include 10 SDGs that are particularly relevant to the response to AIDS (Goal 1, Goal 2, Goal 3, Goal 4, Goal 5, Goal 8, Goal 10, Goal 11, Goal 16 and Goal 17).

I like 4 things about the 2030 Agenda (1) it is a universal and ambitious blueprint for shared prosperity in a sustainable world, where all people can live productive, vibrant and peaceful lives, in dignity, and on a healthy planet; (2) it builds on the MDGs; (3) it seeks to realize the human rights of all and achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women; (4) the SDGs balance the 3 dimensions of sustainable development - the economic, social and environmental. Given that the SDG goals are integrated and indivisible, I believe they are all important. However, I firmly resonate with Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms as this is undoubtably the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development; and Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

I will start by the SDG 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. I believe it is possible to achieve this goal with less efforts if the SDG 17 was enforced with real solidarity facts. The conflicts, mismanagement of public funds, Covid-19, climate changes, growing inequalities are converging to undermine the food security worldwide.
My second choice is the SDG 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries.
My third choice is the SDG 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
I link all the three SDG as through partnership we can resolve the problem of inequalities and end the hunger. Once done, the other SDG, the human being will have a balanced life and enjoy more the stay in this planet.

The 5Ps / 17 SDGs are easy to remember and advocate, a universal and holistic approach for the betterment of the world, and spotlights LNOB. Due to the linked nature of the 5Ps / 17 SDGs, our work challenges us to be engaged as UNCT members in all areas. Using our experience in the HIV response, we can advocate for the voiceless, be proactive to address the needs of the most vulnerable, and find balance in a world that struggles between growth, peace, etc.

I remember the transition from the MDGs to SDGs that felt like we were ‘losing ground’ by no longer having a stand-alone Goal related to HIV. But we have come a long way since then – situating HIV and SDG3 within the context of the broader Agenda 2030 and highlighting the various other SDGs that are closely linked to what we are trying to achieve as UNAIDS. The new Global AIDS Strategy 2021-2026 that is firmly aligned with the idea of leaving no one behind has also helps explain our mandate to diverse partners working alongside us toward the achievement of the SDGs including at the country level.

The SDG agenda represents for me the solidary and unified commitment of the Member States to ensure wellbeing and prosperity for present and future generations. One of the things I like more of this framework since the early discussion for its creation is the inclusivity principle. This agenda was consulted and developed in close collaboration and coordination of efforts between governments, civil society, communities, academia, development partners, private sector, ensuring no one was left behind since its creation. The implementation of the 5 pillars is responsibility of all at different levels and this makes the different to ensure no one is leaving behind. Also, accountability is a priority evidenced in the 17 SDGs (goals) and the 169 targets.

The 17 goals are crucial, but I feel special interest in supporting the work of the following SDG 1,2,3,4,5, 8, 10, 11, 16 an 17 due to the relationship of some of these with the Global AIDS Strategy, and some others because are related to social inequities and injustices that people close to me have experienced.

Looking at the 17 Goals how they are interconnected to ensure no one is left behind, is very inspiring. HIV/AIDS Global response as indicated in the 2021 UN General Assembly for Ending Aids as public threat by 2030 and in the 2021 -2026 Global Aids Strategy will leverage on the achievements of the other SDGS beyond the Goal 3 and outcome 3.3 . Ending inequalities as SDG 10 will have a huge return on investment for HIV response.

The SDGs are a guidance for countries on the path to peace, security and well-being through 17 goals that include addressing gender inequalities, reducing inqualities across key areas of development such as the elimination of poverty, zero hunger, quality education and good health and well-being. What most resonates with me is that the SDGs have allowed us to demonstrate how the HIV response must be address across multiple areas and does not just below to health. While during the MDGs, we had an HIV/AIDS specific goal, we are now challenged to show how we can end Aids by working in partnerhips and across multiple sectors. For me and the work in Brazil, it is inequalities and partnerships that most resonate beyond the good health and well-being.

The 2030 Agenda envisions a secure world free of poverty and hunger, with full and productive employment, access to quality education and universal health coverage, the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. What I like most of the 2030 Agenda is the emphasis on the interconnectedness of environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development by putting sustainability at the center. This also means that all sectors must work hand in hand to achieve the goals collectively. Having a public health background, SDG 3 resonates most with me both at personal and professional level. The 13 targets and 28 indicators are consolidation of various programs that would reflect how healthy the country is. It also highlights the importance of health financing and workforce which can be considered backbone of a successful health program.

What do you like most of the 2030 Agenda? Which Goals resonates with you and your work the most?

The SDGs have great resonance, and it is exciting to be in a country that strives to localize them! The constant reference to leaving no one behind invokes the equality agenda that the Global AIDS Strategy is working towards and reminds me how interconnected both are.

So many of the 17 goals are relevant to our work and of course for me the several that stand out and that I am always linking our work too;

As a father of a 16-year-old girl, I am constantly reminded each day about the predicament of many girls, who are denied access to education, forced into marriage, gets pregnant before 16 years, raped and constantly live in fear of being abused by a teacher, uncle or a neighbor, trying to make a living through survival or transactional sex and being denied opportunity just because you are a girl/woman.

My experience with my little girls has taught me that when given the opportunity, women and girls can do equally well if not better. I believe the world would be a better place if women are given equal opportunities; that's why Goal Five resonates with me very well.

Without Goal 5, the 2030 agenda will not be achieved. Goal 5 remains most critical if the 5Ps and the LNOP principles are strictly adhered to.

The 2030 agenda is a plan of action. Its comprised by the called 5 "Ps" people, planet, peace, partnership and prosperity. Main global challenge is irradicating poverty that is an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. All stakeholders establishing partnerships, will implement this plan. At the center of the agenda is the pedge for not leaving no one will be left behind. Its comprised by 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets which build on the Millennium Development Goals and aim to complete what these did not achieve. They are fundamented in human rights, gender equality and the empowerment of all women and adolescents, girls. The goals are integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental.
