There are two types of filaments that are used in 3D printing: Polylactic acid (PLA) and
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS).
The difference between these two types of filaments is PLA is made out of biodegradable plastic and ABS is made out of oil based materials. Although, ABS has a longer life span and is also stronger than PLA, when ABS is used in 3D printing, there will always be a smell of oil/fossil fuels when the material is used in 3D printing. PLA filaments are able to form in a bigger variety of shapes than ABS filaments.
