babies use one word utterance like go or dog ages 12 to 18 mths. This is a slow but gradual process were infants learn several words a week.

Semantics:
language skills that refer to an understanding  and appropriate use of meaning in single words, phrases, sentences and even longer words. For example, having a word on the tip of your tongue but being unable to retrieve / find the word on demand/ when needed

the structure and construction of words, such as progressive verb, /s/ to ing to indicate a plural form and correct use of verb tense

Pragmatics:
Example: you have your friend over for dinner. Your child sees your friend reach for some cookies and says, " Better not take those, or you'll get even bigger." You're embarrassed that your child could speak so rudely.
