I wanted to explore gender issues in south asia. There are so many South Asians here, and gender is one of the biggest issues in education in our context. But not only is there no space in coursework to discuss the geography, there is no space to discuss gender outside of E&O electives at all. I asked my advisor to connect me with people at HGSE who work on gender, and he could not name any faculty.

I would have loved some support from the administration when my visa got delayed. Instead of showing me empathy (because no one controls embassy policies and protocols) they cancelled my admission altogether. I still remember the woman who sent me the email with the snarky 'I hope you continue trying to change the world'

Ironically, it was another woman who rescued me. Dean Bridget Long told me to come because I deserved to be here. It was uplifting and empowering and we need more of that - not just from faculty, but also from administration offices.

I wish I felt more welcomed as a woman, first gen leader it felt very generic and everything moves so fast
I wish there were more spaces to share experiences and get coached as a leader, a woman of color, an immigrant

(there is no concrete evidence for this) friendly competition between schools is fine, but sometimes I feel like schools that have a higher proportion of males like HBS and HKS look down on schools like HGSE and the health school under the guise of school competition but a lot of the time it’s just internalised misogyny

I went through the most bitter housing experiences in the fall semester. As a women, I felt extremely vulnerable knowing how uncertainty of housing was harming me and my academics throughout the fall. Most of the Women at HGSE connected with me at that time and checked up on me during that difficult time. These kind of initiatives that you plan on introducing seem to provide an optimistic hope and safe space for future Girls joining HGSE.

The career fairs are mainly for work as school teachers. If HGSE has different programs, the organizations contacted should be more diverse, too.
