It is done using a variety of media tools. Students can use graphics, photos, voice recordings, sound clips, videos and music in whatever way they want to express their message and their understanding.

It gives them more choice in how they will communicate. The variety of choices allows them the opportunity to CREATIVELY show their thinking in a way that is more meaningful to the individual student. 
I think it can benefit more students in the classroom, because, not only does it appeal to this digital-age generation, but it makes learning accessible to different learning styles.
Lastly, the fact that the work is digital allows for students and teachers to connect and share the work immediately. Students have more opportunity to comment and collaborate on work and other projects. My students have to complete a personal narrative during the first quarter of the year. After two months of summer vacation, many students start the year 'rusty' when it comes to writing. Padlet can be a helpful way for them to tell about an event in their lives without the pressure of having to write everything out. The idea that students have access to a wide range of tools can allow for students to work on an assignment or project together and contribute in a way that feels comfortable to them and highlights their strengths and talents. For example, someone might be more comfortable typing text, while another might want to provde the graphics.
