For lighting up every food item, we used a light stick that we then hovered over the items and we had the option of warm orange lighting and white light. The difference i see between F/1.8 and F/8 is that the focus changes from up close to far and wider focus. I personally prefer the wider aperture meaning it focuses more because it shows more of the food item and just overall it looks more professional.
Some key points I learned about food photography is that you have to shoot at different angles and focus each picture differently, not doing so would make all the pictures look the same and boring. Also changing it up a little bit makes them more interesting. If I were to do this again I would light the food items differently and shoot them at different angle
