Pour le groupe de besoin ci à la suite, la compréhension mathématique du problème en passant par un schéma mathématique est travaillée. L'élève propose son "propre schéma" dans un premier temps, en travail individuel. Puis, le groupe de besoin a l'occasion de confronter les différents schémas mathématiques imaginés (droite graduée, schéma en barres, schéma à partir de cercles départ - arrivée...). Un élève propose un écrit intermédiaire. Sans dire un moment, l'un propose son schéma en barres "A ton avis, je ne te dis rien, on va voir si tu comprends..." La magie opère : "C'est marrant, on n'a pas fait du tout la même méthode, mais je comprends ce que tu veux dire : on a mis combien ça fait au départ, on cherche combien ça fait à la fin et là, c'est ce qu'il manque." Enfin, il s'agira de convenir avec la classe d'un "schéma type" tel que le nomme l'enseignant, c'est-à-dire d'un schéma de référence commun au groupe classe. La compétence visée, "représenter", est ciblée de manière précise. Elle permet d'assurer et de vérifier la bonne compréhension mathématique du problème... et permettra d'accéder au modèle mathématique plus tard lorsqu'il s'agira de faire des analogies "C'est comme...". Constats:
- Le recours au schéma dans certains groupes n'était pas envisagé alors que la représentation de l'énoncé était erronée. Nécessité de les guider quant à la représentation de la situation.
- A la première lecture, les problèmes atypiques leur paraissaient plus difficiles. Cependant, un des problèmes à étapes leur a réellement posé le plus problème. La démarche est clairement tournée vers la construction d'un outil permettant de faire un choix quant au modèle mathématique à appliquer. Notre collègue nous fait part de l'étayage nécessaire mais également d'une réussite qui s'améliore.
